Indications are that Prithviraj is inching his way towards superstardom,
something that’s rather difficult to accomplish in Malayalam cinema
these days as it already has many eyeing that position.
But the young actor’s stars seem to be on the ascent these days.
Prithviraj, who is as much in demand in Tamil as in Malayalam and who
got the fortune to play the cop in Maniratnam’s Ravanan, is at present
acting in Thriller, directed by scenarist-turned-director
B.Unnikrishnan.
The film, which was earlier reported to be based on the sensation Paul
Muthoot murder case (something which has been denied by the makers of
the movie), has Prithviraj playing a firebrand kind of cop. It has
apparently bagged, by way of satellite rights sales, a sum of Rs. 1.45
crore. For Prithviraj, this is a leap of sorts, as he had been in the
below 1-crore bracket in the satellite rights market. From the 85-90
lakh range, the actor has now evolved into a star who could ensure as
much as Rs. 1.45 for his films by way of satellite rights sale. And this
when Malayalam film featuring superstars are fetching satellite rights
to the tune of Rs 1.5 crore.
